Weija- Gbawe Municipal Assembly had its second Management meeting for the year 2024
on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Assembly’s Hall.
The meeting, chaired by Mrs. Doreen Acheampong, the Deputy Coordinating Director for the
Assembly which had the presence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Michael
Danquah and Heads of Departments of the Assembly was to discuss the activities of the
Assembly in the first quarter of the year both internally and externally.
Mr. Charles Odoom, the Education Director in his presentation revealed that, the Basic
Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which comes off from July 8 to 12, 2024 has the
participation of 4,184 students with 2,164 and 2,020 students from both public and private
schools respectively with 19 examination centers( 11 public and 8 private).
He added that, the subjects (English Language, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies,
Religious and Moral Education, Creative Arts Design, Career Technology- Compulsory Subjects
and French, Arabic and Computing -Optional Subjects) would be written under Common Core
Program. He also pleaded to the Assembly to come to the aid of some schools as most of the
public schools have a roof rip off and leakage.
The Works Department on the other hand disclosed that, one police station building in the
Municipality is almost completed and a school building at Gonse has been completed and yet to
be commissioned. They also added that, as a result of the ECOWAS support for disaster, a
borehole drilling is in progress at the new Gonse school premises.
The Social Welfare Department, led by Madam Nancy divulged that out of the 24 activities
being planned by the department, 19 has been implemented. They include supporting persons
with disability, organizing study group and mass meeting, a two day training for day care
attendants, educating students on adolescent age, teenage pregnancy , personal hygiene, 27 cases
out of 36 reported cases which include teenage pregnancy, missing children, a neglected old
man, custody access were dealt with among others.
