The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Gifty Naa Ayele Mensah and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, have met with the executives of four (4) residents' associations in the New Weija Electoral Area.
The associations are, the Saint Jude, Toronto Junction, Korkordjor/Mandela, and the McCarthy Valley Residents' Associations.
The meeting was held at the Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, 17th May 2020.
Present at the meeting were the Assembly Member for the New Weija West Electoral Area, who is, also, the Presiding Member of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Oduro Ampaw, the Assembly Member for the New Weija East Electoral Area, Hon Grace Ntiamoah and the Municipal Urban Roads Engineer, Eng Daniel Sowah.
A representative of the residents' associations, Mr. N. Sackey, set the tone for the meeting by thanking the MP and the MCE, who called for the meeting, for honouring their promise to make time for them.
In his interaction with the executives of the associations, Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE) informed them of plans to develop their areas, by constructing drains and sealing of selected roads in the enclave.
He, further, said sixteen (16) kilometers of roads would be asphalted in the municipality.
Three (3) kilometers of that would be spread in the New Weija Electoral Area.
Hon Tina Mensah (MP) said a lot of effort had been put into the securing of the projects for the area.
She asked them to exercise restraint when dealing with the authorities, since it takes time to get contracts sealed.
The Deputy Minister for Health, ended by advising on the Ghana Health Service hygiene protocols of frequent hand washing with soap under running water, the use of hand sanitizer, the observance of social/physical distance and the wearing of masks.
The Municipal Urban Roads Engineer, Eng Daniel Sowah, explained to the meeting stretches that would be worked on and their distances.
During question time, it came out that the various associations wanted a little of the project.
It was agreed to meet the heads of the various associations to agree on which areas to be touched.
Other issues facing the electoral areas were discussed.
The perrenial flooding of areas around the Korkordjor river against the authorities response, rates and levies of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, were brought on.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Patrick Kumor, took time to explain the Assembly's role and mandate in tackling the issues discussed.
Hon Kumor (MCE), ended by assuring the meeting of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly's resolve to alleviate the challenges facing its citizens.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr Sackey said he was highly impressed to see the enthusiasm of both the MP and the MCE to work together to make the municipality/ constituency soar to greater heights.
