The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly has started the demolition of structures on waterways.
The demolition started on Wednesday, 14th October 2020 and is expected to run its full course.
This exercise comes in the wake of flooding in most parts of the municipality as a result of torrential rains on Saturday, 10th October 2020.
The worst-hit areas were the New Weija East and West electoral areas.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumar, who was present during the demolition, said the era of people building on watercourses is over.
He lamented the attitude of certain developers putting up illegal structures anywhere and everywhere.
Some members of the affected communities hailed the exercise and commended the Municipal Assembly and the Chief Executive for the bold decision.
