The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, the Weija-Gbawe Municipal NADMO and Health Directorates, on Friday, 7th October 2022, rationed out some relief items to residents in the municipality affected by the Weija dam spillage, to help ease the stress of the current crisis.
The team was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Tina Gifty Mensah.
Hon. Adu Boahen, Municipal NADMO Director and Dr. Naomi Appeah, Municipal Health Director, were on hand to assist with the distribution.
Some of the items in the packages disbursed included mattresses, buckets, kilos of rice, bottles of cooking oil, soap and clothing.
Mosquito repellents and nets were also provided by the Municipal Health Directorate.
Personal oversight was provided by the MCE and the MP as the items were distributed to the communities of Weija Old Town, Ada Kope and Oblogo.
Other communities of New Weija, White Cross, Choice, Ashbread, Dam site and Tetegu, all affected by the spillage, are yet to be served.
NADMO, Municipal Assembly and the Health Directorate were on hand to ensure that victims were served.
Some of the affected persons were very appreciative of the effort by the authorities.
These distributions are expected to be followed by steps the government would take to curb such disasters from happening in the near future.
