With forecasts of heavy rains this year, the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) has started the de-silting of certain drains and waterways in the municipality.
A team made up of the Member of Parliament (MP), the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), some Assembly Members and some members of management of the Municipal Assembly, visited some of the areas where the de-silting was ongoing.
Speaking to the media on the proactive step taken by the Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor reiterated the resolve of his outfit to mitigate the issues of flooding in some electoral areas leading to the displacement of communities, loss of property and in some cases, the loss of lives.
He commended the Azumah Landlords and Residents' Association led by Mr Kofi Gyan and Hon. Oduro Ampaw for their collaborative effort with the Municipal Assembly.
He pleaded with residents to desist from the disposal of waste into the open drains.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Tina Mensah said the move by the Municipal Assembly will go a long way to ease the burden of victims of floods looking for alternative means of accommodation.
She said her office is in constant contact with the Municipal Assembly and assisting in every way she can.
The de-silting works will continue at the Korkordzor, Baale, Mallam junction, CP and the Salvation Prayer Camp areas.
