The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) and Akwaaba Feeds Limited (AFL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the management of the Gbawe Pig Abattoir (GPA).
The MOU was signed on Monday, 29th August 2022 in the office of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA), Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor.
Hon. Patrick Kumor (MCE) signed the documents on behalf of the Municipal Assembly, while Mr. Sylvester Cooper, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Akwaaba Feeds Limited (AFL) signed on behalf of his company.
The event was witnessed by the Presiding Member (PM) of the Municipal Assembly, Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe, heads of departments of the Municipal Assembly and some staff of both Akwaaba Feeds Limited and the Gbawe Pig Abattoir.
The MOU included a management plan, the creation of over three hundred and fifty (350) jobs, and a maintenance plan.
Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe (MCD) in a brief address, said, since all issues had been discussed, she is of the view that the abattoir would serve the purpose for which it had been constructed.
The MCE, Hon. Patrick Kumor congratulated Akwaaba Feeds Limited (AFL) and urged them to work assiduously to keep the chain grinding on.
The pig value chain was constructed with a partnership between the European Union (EU) and the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA).
The project was facilitated by OLIVES, a non-governmental organization.
The abattoir will be known as the Gbawe Pig Abattoir (GPA) with Dr. Osei Bonsu as its manager.
