The Weija-Gbawe municipality will soon have an AstroTurf playing field.
A sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the facility was performed on Friday, 2nd September 2022.
Witnessed by the chiefs and elders of Gbawe, led by the Queen mother of Gbawe, Naa Yaaniede ll, the ceremony, though short, was very colorful.
Other dignitaries were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA), Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib Esq.
The Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako, the Acting Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Nancy Pertey, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Charles Odoom, some heads of departments and staff of the Municipal Assembly, were all present.
The Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Michael Danquah, his executive and some patriots, were there.
Mr. Yaw Amankwah, a philanthropist and a father figure in the municipality, added his glow to the occasion.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Charles Odoom, gave the welcome address.
Naa Yaaniede ll, applauded the government, through the Municipal Assembly, for the developmental projects in the municipality.
She cited the ongoing construction of U drains on the Gbawe Zero road as an example.
The queen mother hoped that the construction of the multi-purpose facility would not delay.
Hon. Patrick Kumor (MCE), in his speech, acknowledged the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Tina Mensah, who is currently out of the country.
The MCE was highly elated about the project and added that a number of add-ons would complete it.
Hon. Kumor (MCE) said the project is as a result of a promise made in 2016 by the MP.
He said some road projects that seemed to have been abandoned, would soon have contractors working on them, notable amongst them is the road from Lafa to Awoshie Onyinase.
Hon. Kumor (MCE) thanked CODA for the construction of previous projects in the municipality.
Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib Esq. (CEO), noted that the Astro Turf project would be one (1) out of twelve (12) to be constructed nationwide.
He said persistent correspondence and calls from the Municipal Assembly, the MP and MCE for the construction of the Astro Turf, has been worthwhile.
The Chief Executive Officer further intimated that it would be a multi-purpose facility, with a sitting area, dressing and washrooms, space for other amenities and at least, forty (40) shops.
The representative of the OXYGEN Group of Dubai, Mr. Moses Attobrah, lauded the MCE for his
support for the project.
In all, he said, the project would be ready for commissioning in four (4) months.
He said there would be extra space for a children's playground, which would double as an event centre and a basketball court.
The dignitaries later moved to the field for a symbolic sod-cutting event.
