Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA), has reiterated the fact that the establishment of an abattoir in the municipality will enhance economic activities. He made the remark in his address at the ready to take off ultra modern abattoir in Gbawe as it held a stakeholders engagement. The abattoir, Gbawe Pig Abattoir (GPA) an European Union/Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly partnership (EU/WGMA), facilitated by the Dr. Moses Ogoes OLIVES (NGO), located in the Gbawe East Electoral Area, held the meeting on Wednesday, 3rd August 2022. Present at the engagement were the major players in the piggery value chain. The Municipal Assembly was represented by the Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, the Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe, the Finance Officer (MFO), Mr. Gabby Tawiah and other heads of departments. The President of the Ghana Pig Farmers Association, Mr. Appiah Danquah, led his associations delegation. The Agricultural sector was equally represented by the regional veterinary and extension officers. The farmers, the mainstay of the project, came from some regions. The manager of the abattoir, Dr. Osei Bonsu, who took the stakeholders through the plans and expectations of the facility, made it clear that the Gbawe Pig Abattoir (GPA) would be managed, strictly, by a competent private entity. The chairman for the engagement, Mr. Sylvester Cooper, a poultry and pig feed manufacturer, said there would be a consortium to oversee the operations of the abattoir. The Agricultural Development Bank (Adb) and the Ghana Agric Insurance Pool (GAIP) are collaborators in the project. Julius Sarpei, PRO, Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly.
