The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly has organized a meeting with the leaders of various churches in the municipality, in wake of the potential terrorist activities and measures to take to combat them. The meeting was held on Tuesday, the 16th of June, 2022, on the Assembly’s premises, as part of the “Operation See Something, Say Something†initiative launched by the government. In attendance was Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), W.O. Braimah Kasim, the Security Coordinator of the Municipal Assembly, and the church executives. As part of the initiative, the District Police Commander, Superintendent Daniel Boafo sensitized the church leaders on the need to be alert, and measures to take in case of emergencies. He urged the leaders to take a few minutes during church services, to educate their congregants about being each other’s keepers, and being on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary. As part of the safety measures, the leaders were advised to install security cameras at vantage points in their churches. A number of emergency lines were also made known, to be contacted if needed. They were, also, told to reach out to the police for protection, before going ahead to organize programs, especially in the evenings. Speaking to the house, Hon. Kumor (MCE) urged the people to not only sit through the sensitization but put the measures into practice to the benefit of their congregations and the whole municipality. The MCE also thanked the leaders for coming at such short notice. He added that the best be made out of the measures provided. He said, â€We are not in normal times. We are not here to scare anyone, but we really need to be on our toes.†The sensitization program was very interactive and afforded the leaders the opportunity to ask questions, comment on the issues raised, and put out suggestions. Julius Sarpei, PRO, Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly.
