WGMA Organisms Seminar For Muslim Leaders On Eliminating Violence

The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) has organised a one-day sensitization program for Muslim Leaders.

The program dubbed,' Eliminating Violence in our Zongo communities for Peace and Tolerance,' was held on Tuesday, 24th May 2022 at the Institute for Technical Supervision (ITS).

Chiefs, Imams, and Youth Leaders from all the fourteen (14) electoral areas in the municipality attended.

Commanders of the security services in the municipality were present as resource persons.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, who opened the meeting, thanked the Muslim leaders for the enthusiasm with which they embraced the invitation.

He reiterated the commitment of the assembly to eliminating violence in the Zongo communities.

He continued with the launch of the ' See Something, Say Something' campaign that is creating awareness in case of any terrorist activity in the country.

The MCE ended by urging all present to contribute positively to the sensitization program.

Superintendent John Opoku, the Divisional Commander of the Odorkor Police, said the police should be seen as friends in the society.

He said citizens should not hesitate to give information to the police as this helps in ensuring a peaceful society.

The Divisional Commander said the Zongo communities are, erroneously, tagged as violent due to the lifestyles of the youth there.

He ended by advising the leaders not to shield any criminals amongst them.

Some of the Muslim leaders put out some suggestions to either curb or eliminate the incidence of violence to ensure peace and tolerance.

They agreed that henceforth new worshippers to the mosques would be screened.

Present at the sensitization program was the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe, and some heads of departments and staff of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly.
