For the little four year olds, Tuesday 10th September 2019 marks the first time they set foot in a classroom.
Affectionately called, 'My first day at school,' the day was marked with visits to selected schools in the municipality by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Naa Ayele Mensah and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor.
They were accompanied by the Acting Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs Nancy Pertey and some staff of Municipal Education Directorate.
Schools visited included the Weija Methodist Basic School, Weija MA 3, Gbawe Methodist Cluster and the Gonsee Schools.
At these schools, the MP and the MCE presented a set of books, crayons, pencils and chocolates to each of the little ones.
Hon Tina Mensah said she wanted the first day of the children to be a memorable one, hence the inclusion of the chocolates.
In an interview, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor (MCE) said as the future leaders of the nation, these children must be brought up to appreciate the importance of education.
He ended by enumerating some classroom blocks to be put up in the municipality soon.
