MCE Joins People Of Gbawe To Celebrate Homowo

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor on Monday, 2nd September 2019, joined the chiefs and people of Gbawe to celebrate their annual Homowo festival at a grand durbar held at the forecourt of the chief's palace.

'Homowo' means, hooting at hunger. It is celebrated annually by the Ga people to commemorate the bumper harvest they had  after a period of drought.

The stool secretary of the Gbawe Kwatei Family, Nii Afutu Quartey, welcomed the  MCE and his entourage to the durbar grounds.

In his address to the gathering, Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), conveyed greetings from His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana and the Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Naa Ayele Mensah, who was indisposed.

He continued by congratulating the chiefs for their commitment to smoking the peace pipe after the intervention of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC). The result of which all have witnessed.

The MCE went on by recounting projects and programmes executed over the one-and-a-half years of the Assembly's existence.

He, then, concentrated on  Gbawe. He said a modern abattoir and a fire station would be built in the community. A number of roads would, also, be constructed soon, since the contractors had come to inspect the sites.

Hon Patrick Kumor ended his address by asking the chiefs to maintain the peace Gbawe is enjoying.

He thanked them for giving him the opportunity to interact with them.

There were cultural displays and a sketch to spice up the celebrations.
