WGMA Takes Extra Measures to Combat COVID-19
The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly has taken extra precautionary measures to fight the corona virus (COVID-19) menace.
At a District Epidemic Management Committee meeting held on Tuesday, 24th March 2020, a decision was taken to take the extra measures to mitigate the situation.
These are additional measures to the earlier ones put in place by the President.
The President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in an earlier nationwide broadcast, directed the closure of schools, churches and mosques.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, who chaired the meeting, expressed worry over latest figures announced of COVID-19 victims by the Information Minister, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in an update earlier in the day.
There were situational briefings by Dr. Akosua Sika Ayisi, Director of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Health Directorate and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Mercy Quansah.
Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), directed that, until the situation improves, all drinking bars/pubs should remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Further to that, all chopbars, restaurants and all eateries must provide Veronica buckets, soap and hand sanitizers for their clients.
He said strict adherence to the directives would be enforced by the security services.
A van will send out public announcements to inform the general public on these measures immediately.
