WGMA Elects New Presiding Member

Everyone was sitting on tenterhooks, then it turned into a spontaneous eruption of joy as the  Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly elected a new Presiding Member in the person of Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako.
The venue, the Institute for Technical Supervision (ITS), on Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, was filled with all who matter in the political, traditional, and administrative setup in the Weija-Gbawe municipality/constituency.
They were there to fulfill a provision in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (ACT 936) with Amendment (ACT 940) which states that a Presiding Member shall be elected every two (2) years, with a two-thirds majority, from among the Assembly Members.
The two contestants, Hon. Emmanuel Oduro Ampaw, the incumbent, and Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako, both immaculately attired, looked poised for victory.
A speech by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor set the tone for the electoral process.
He appealed to the Assembly Members to continue to remain united even as they exercise their franchise.
After two rounds of voting, Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako emerged the winner with fifteen (15) votes against seven (7) votes for Hon. Emmanuel Oduro Ampaw.
After he was sworn in by Her Lordship Ellen Mireku, the new Presiding Member, Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako, flanked by his beautiful wife, expressed his gratitude to all for their assistance, in diverse ways, to make his election possible.
He called for all hands on deck as they chart a new vision, a new direction, with renewed hope and energy.
Hon. Tina Mensah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Health Minister, in her remarks, thanked all the Assembly Members for rallying around to put the matter to rest.
She pledged her continuous support for the Assembly at all times.
