President Akufo- Addo cuts sod for SHS in Weija.
The President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday 3rd December 2019, performed a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a Senior High School in Weija.
The ultra modern science based model mixed school will have all the facilities of a first class senior high school.
The presidential entourage included the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Allan Kyeremanteng, and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta.
Other personalities included the Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Hon. Divine Otoo Agorhom, Former Mayor of Accra, Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson, the Deputy General Secretary, Nii Laryea Squire and the Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Ga South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Joseph Nyarni Stephen and Municipal Chief Executive of the Ledzokuku Municipal, Hon Ajele Gyamera, graced the occasion with their presence.
The chiefs and elders of both divisional stools of Weija and Gbawe, and the Moslem leaders were in full regalia.
After the national anthem had been sung, Bishop Eric Amponsah delivered a powerful prayer, followed by the traditional pouring of libation by the Wolomo of Weija, Nuumo Tetteh Fio lll.
Welcoming the President to the event, Nii Boafo Danyinaa Nse, the Dzaasetse and Acting Chief of the Weija, thanked the President for siting the senior high school in Weija and gave a brief background of Weija lands. He pleaded with President to be given back their lands which are not being utilised by the Government.
Nii Boafo Danyinaa Nse ended by asking the President to intervene in the long standing boundary dispute with Gbawe.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey presented drinks, on behalf of the President, to the chiefs.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, who is a former Member of Parliament for Weija, said she was happy that finally, Weija-Gbawe would have a public senior high school.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta, said the road leading to the school would be constructed. He enumerated roads that would be constructed in the coming weeks.
Notable among them are the Onyinase and Tetegu roads. The Mayas and Broadcasting roads, he said, would also be rehabilitated. He ended by saying that the rest of the roads in the municipality would be tackled early next year.
The Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Twum Ampofo, said the free SHS has come to stay. She, therefore, encouraged girls to take up the science based courses as they are not boys only fields.
The Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, thanked the President for the decision to build the school in Weija. She also thanked the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Dr. Clifford Braimah, for his cooperation and release of the land for the project.
She also commended the Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, for his tireless efforts to ensure the realisation of the dream for a science based senior high school in Weija.
A cultural display and a recital by students of the Saint Joseph Catholic School, preceded the President's speech.
His Excellency, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a brief speech, thanked and acknowledged all for their various roles in ensuring that the project is sited in Weija.
The President made special mention of the 'hardworking, energetic young man', referring to the Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, who within a year had worked so hard.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said his government is committed to the development of the country and he would do just that.
He assured the chiefs that he's no stranger to the issues in Weija-Gbawe and said the consideration of alternative dispute resolution should not be ruled out.
He ended by saying that next year will see more developmental projects in the country and he hoped that with this record, he would be returned to power in the next election.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, presented a portrait to the President.
Sheila Illiasu Issah gave the closing prayers after which the President and the chiefs moved to the site for the ceremonial ground breaking.
