The 1.2 kilometres road linking Gbawe Gravel Junction and Telecom Road has started.
The historic sod cutting ceremony was jointly performed by the Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Naa Ayele Mensah and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor at the Gravel Junction.
The ceremony, performed on Monday 7th October 2019, was witnessed by a cross section of chiefs, opinion leaders and residents.
In attendance were the chairman of the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Michael Danquah and his executives.
Mr Yaw Amankwah, proprietor of Crown and Glory School and an opinion leader in the vicinity, was also present.
Speaking on behalf of the chief of Gbawe, Nii Mohammed Kwatelai Quartey was full of praise for the President, the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive for their commitment to the people.
Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), said the vision to make Weija-Gbawe rub shoulders with prime areas is on course. As usual, he asked for value for money.
The Municipal Chief Executive asked the contractors to employ some of the youth in the area on the project. This, he said, would give them ownership of the project.
The Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Mensah, in a short address, recounted a brief history of the road; an incident which nearly ended in fisticuffs in the year 2016.
Hon Tina Mensah said she was so happy the project has seen the light of day.
Mr Yaw Amankwah said the ceremony had coincided with his birthday. He, therefore, considered it as a birthday present. He was full of praise for the Member of Parliament.
A representative of Messrs GS International Developers, contractors on the project, promised to complete the project in one (1) month.
Residents who spoke to the media were so happy to witness the commencement of the project. They thanked the President, the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive for coming to their aid.
