NADMO Organises Disaster Risk Reduction Education.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO),of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, on Thursday 31st October 2019, organised a one day sensitization programme for residents in the New Weija Electoral Area.

The programme which was under the theme, ' Reduce Disaster Damage to Critical Infrastructure and Disruption of Basic Services. ', was also attended by Regional NADMO officials, chiefs, opinion leaders and school children.

The special guest of honour was the Municipal Chief Executive of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor.

The Municipal NADMO Director, Hon Emmanuel Adu Boahen, welcomed all to the grounds and hoped that all present will be enlightened on disaster prevention.

The Chief Disaster Control Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Salomey, gave a talk on misconceptions about NADMO.

He said the core functions of NADMO are preventive measures, mitigation, response, and restoration, reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Mr Palm of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), spoke on the spillage of the dam and measures to be taken.

Mr. Ebenezer Okuampah, a Development Consultant, spoke about the environmental and economic imparts of flooding.

Mr Oliver Moffat of Weija-Gbawe NADMO educated the community on steps to take during earthquakes.

Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), in his address said the talk shop days are over.

He said, listening to the school children educating adults, has given him food for thought.
The Municipal Chief Executive said his outfit will task NADMO and the Works Department of the Assembly to mark structures on water ways for demolition.

He said a lot of resources have been expended on environmental health and it is high time they yield positive results. He also pleaded with the chiefs to stop selling lands on water ways.

Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), ended by enumerating projects to be undertaken in the New Weija Electoral Area in the coming weeks.

There were questions and suggestions from the members present which were expertly answered by the Municipal Chief Executive.
